Breaking down the homepage to capture more leads

Flyhomes aims to make the home buying/selling process effortless, more transparent, and enjoyable for everyone. My challenge was to redesign the homepage of Flyhomes to present relevant information to the customers while portraying a strong brand personality. I restructured the entire homepage by showing the customers that home buying/selling process isn't always frustrating; it can also be fun. Throughout the process, I also defined the brand attributes that impacted my design decisions to create a strong brand identity.

    Competitive Research and Analysis

        Understand what current solutions are being used and adopted in the market. For this challenge, I specifically focused on improving the homepage. This process allowed me to find good patterns and avoid mistakes they have already made in coming up with a good solution.

        Flyhomes User Thought

        Marty Neumeier once said, “a brand is a person's gut feeling about a product, service or organization.” To get a feel for what the users think, I read reviews on Yelp about Flyhomes. This process helped me come up with the brand attributes that impacted my design decisions and inspired me to collect images into a mood board.

          User Interview

          Gather valuable information from users who have buying/selling home experiences. This allowed me to better understand the issues of the real estate industry.

          User Persona

          Based on the interviews, I then summarized these users into user personas. Creating personas helped me drive design decisions by taking common user needs and bringing them to the forefront of planning before design has actually started. I created two personas that represent the two target audiences — a tech-savvy buyer and a concerned seller. When making every design decision in the later design process, these personas help me make informed design decisions to create exceptional products.

          Goal

          Base on the study, here are the three goals I want to focus on

          • Focus on not only the buyer’s perspective but also that of seller
          • A clear website structure that explains what the company does and allows the user to realize how valuable the product is
          • Speak to target customer’s need

          Wireframe Sketch

          An initial hand-drawn design process, using paper and pen/pencil, of what a website design will look like.

          After a couple of paper iterations, I switched to Sketch as it allowed me to easily move things around. This was the final result of the user flow after a couple of iterations in Sketch:

          These image are inspired by the previous brand attributes that I have created --delightful process, reliable programs, intelligent resource, fluent experience and accessible service. Therefore, my character’s strategy was focused on a perfect balance of convivial, technological and professionalism using conviviality colour palette, topographic contours, and contemporary type choices.
